Choosing War!

How To Declare, Decline, Accept, Spy and Research Factions

War has many parts:
  • General War information
    • When to decline
    • When to declare
    • When to Accept
  • How to pick a faction (research)
  • Spying and Scouting

General

You never want to have an open war spot. This leaves room for someone to declare on you. Stronger Factions will declare against you. We lose around 240 points if we lose a War and around 40 points if we decline. So decline is better than a loss but not having to decline is best.

When to decline

If you have been declared against, Stop! Think. You have 12 hours to decline. Get other team members ready to declare (more people means more likely to get a choice you want). Pick the Time. Does it make sense to declare war at midnight or would it be better to wait until morning? Depends on when most team members are on.

When to declare

Declare when it is the best 12-hour window for your Faction, or to keep a good pace of wars-One or two active-one or two declares-all separated by several hours. Make sure everyone is aware when you declare. A decline may follow so is the Faction ready for that? Declare from a list of Factions you have created (see below). Not knowing whom you are declaring against can lead to a loss!

When to Accept

When you can win. Unless you want to experience a loss by hackers or a strong faction (and you might want that to lower your GP). When the timing is right.

How to Pick Factions

The End in Mind:

When you are done, you should have a list maybe like this:
Name, Members, Current GP, Comment
1. LilBastrds 20 11385  Easy
2. RatBastrds 48 12700  Challenging  Fair
3. Apoch  50    16900  Hackers
4. nighthawk2 12284
5. Morsy 11413
6. Champion99 29/50 12253/11638
7. Polonia 12502

But how do you get here?
What info are you gathering?
You need to look at how many players a team has. How do their contribution points compare to our Faction? What contribution points does the 10th  level and 15th level have? Ours?
What level players are their top 10? How does that compare to our top 10? How many truly active players do they have? Us?

Are they Russians? Not every Russian is a hacker. However, there are too many that are.

To create your list you need to do research. Research uses tools some of the tools are described below:

Targets and Factions

First off, the Factions we declare War on are our Targets. A Target is a Faction we plan to go to war with or are/have been at war with.
Finding Factions, research, is all about finding the right Targets
The Goal of all this research is to develop a list of potential Targets that will:
Increase our GP
Help the lower level players-Learn-Lvl Up-Get Coins
Prevent declines or losses
Provide challenges and fun for the higher ranked
Give Faction Members a chance to win in Events.
You need a list because often the Faction you pick (your first choice) will already be at War with 3 other Factions. When you declare you get a message that says: “ cannot wage any more wars.”
You had better be ready with another name. I have gone through 25 names once and never found a faction. Many times, you will be declared on before you can find a Faction. This is particularly hard for higher level Factions.
Therefore, having several members declaring wars at the same time is a good strategy if they have each developed a list.

The Target’s Base(s)

Look at the top 5 or 10 players. Do they have large complete bases, full of the things you would expect?
(If they have lots if income buildings is that a weakness?)
Are they high Ranked but underdeveloped base (Hackers or Big Spenders).

Four Tools to use for Research (there are more):

Factions-War
Here you can see the current and some other Factions listed.
You can press one and get details about the faction.
This screen is called: The War Dashboard, or War Board, or War Dash. You will hear things said like “Clear your war board” or “Clear your board” or “Clear the Dash” (never herd that just made it up).
As a 2 star you are expected to ALWAYS clear your boards.
The list --below the current wars-- are Factions that some computer program at GL thinks we should look at. I believe that all of the listed Factions have open spots for War.
This is a good place to look for potential targets.
What you can see on the War Dashboard:
  • GP of Faction
  • GP, Contribution Points and Rank for each member
  • You can also press each member and visit their base or look at their profile:
Their Base
Look at the top 5 or 10 players. Do they have large complete bases, full of the things you would expect?
(If they have lots if income buildings is that a weakness?)
Are they high Ranked but underdeveloped base (Hackers or Big Spenders).

Their Profile:
For now go look!

Main Chat
Amazingly everyone on chat displays their faction. Write Down their Faction Name, Exact spelling. Then go back to War Dash and enter their name in search, wa-la! The Faction is displayed and you can research them as described above.

PVP-Fight!
Go to the Fight button. The Faction Name of the Players you can fight are listed. Research them!

Also on the World Map of the Fight Screen at the Bottom you can press:
LeaderBoards
Here you can go to four tabs
My League
My Faction League
Global LeaderBoard
USA (or other country?) LeaderBoard
On each of these but specifically the My League and My Faction League can find Factions to research.
Go to one of these and select one of the Factions in your Faction League or other players in the My League. You can learn about their Faction and gather the information as described above.

In the End it is all about going out and finding names, researching the Faction, making a judgment on if they are a good match.

Are you any good at picking wars?

Not everyone can make the right call here. You try and you pick a Faction that beats you, or you pick too many low levels and not enough challenging ones, you pick hackers or never get one for the lower players. In any case, if you do not make good picks you might be asked to stop picking. That does not mean your research can’t help others. Share your info and see what they can do with it. It is tough to pick the right wars.

Spying, Scouting, Visiting and Sabotage.

I do not condone sabotage or other undermining techniques but do support a little spying/scouting. What would war be without a little spy play?
What is spying/scouting?
Leaving your faction and joining another Faction with the intent to learn information about the new Faction, to use to determine if they are a good target.

Steps of scouting/spying:

  • Leave your faction.
  • Change your name
  • Request entry to New Faction (AKA Target Faction)
  • Upon entering the Target Faction, go to the main Chat and say hi to everyone. During your stay always say hi and politely introduce yourself to all the players.
  • Immediately donate very high-level fused with Power-Ups (but replaceable) units.
  • Do some PVP fights against high levels and Warlords with no invasion –get contribution points
  • If you are there long enough: Fight in the Wars; Be a good Team member; A spy blends in.
  • Return to your Faction with a list of new potential Targets!
